Last year’s resolutions were a bit hit and miss…how do we think these will go?
#1: Continue a novella
Once again, I’m not putting pressure on myself to finish it. But, I did get a massive chunk of a first draft done for one of my ideas, so it’d be great to get back into that and continue to work on it. There’s only six chapters left of the first draft but I do think I’m going to need to do a massive overhaul of the structure to make the story work.
There’s also at least three other ideas I could continue to work on, if I lose motivation for this one again…
#2: Comic script
Second time’s the charm? Maybe?
If nothing else, I would like to take a look at my old university comic script. Like…at least open the document for it and have a read?
I have considered maybe converting it into a novel, seeing as the plot is entirely worked out, but there are some elements of the story I’m not sure a non-visual medium could do justice. I’m told my descriptions can be very vivid, but there’s just some things I think work better as a graphic narrative. I might give it a go? See what I can tweak.
#3: Experiment
As I said in the ‘Looking back at 2024’ post, I’ve become more confident in my weirder ideas and submitting them to places. I would like for that to continue to grow. The more unique I feel an idea is, the more excited I am to write it.
Keep on going…
This year there has been lots of writing, lots of submitting, and lots of rejections–but that’s how the whole thing works. Every rejection is a sign that I tried.
I will keep on trying.
